David Mahoney founded CIP Counsel in order to provide companies of all sizes the opportunity to access external intellectual property and corporate legal services at in-house pricing.
He provides legal counsel to clients in the areas of Intellectual Property law and corporate matters. As a registered Patent Attorney, David provides legal services regarding patent drafting and patent prosecutions. His practice also encompasses trademark and copyright matters, as well as drafting, negotiating, and enforcing complex agreements such as: licenses, technology transfer, collaboration, international distribution, vendor, sales, professional services, confidentiality, employment, value added OEM, research and development, strategic alliances, partnerships as well as various general commercial agreements. In addition, David also provides counsel on Intellectual Property strategy, policies, and portfolio management.
David has extensive experience representing international technology companies as well as research institutions. Previously, he held the position of U.S. General Counsel and U.S. Director of Intellectual Property for the international biotechnology and Bio-IT company, LION Bioscience. LION Bioscience was listed on both NASDAQ as well as the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and had a peak market capitalization of 1.9 billion dollars.
In addition to working in a publicly traded company setting, David also has experience providing internal and external legal counsel for private companies in biotechnology as well as other industries. Such roles, among others, have included serving as U.S. General Counsel and Director of Intellectual Property for Febit Inc.
David has also served as counsel for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and he is currently an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University. As a former member of the Board of Directors for ChemNavigator, Inc, David brings corporate governance experience to his practice. ChemNavigator Inc. is a leading technology company developing cheminformatic software as well as providing chemical procurement services for its customers.
David also has hands-on experience managing business operations. He was a co-founder and the eventual Managing Director of Navicyte Scientific, a business division of LION. In this role, David was responsible for all business operations of the division and successfully facilitated revenue growth. This was achieved through increasing the customer base, maintaining low overhead costs, enforcing the rights held by Navicyte Scientific, as well as negotiating strategic relationships.He is currently admitted to practice in Massachusetts, before the Federal District Court, District of Massachusetts, in New Hampshire, as well as before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
